Pretty Bland: Colorful Cooking
For The Gastrointestinally Challenged
by Sharon Deevey, RN, PhD
Testimonials:
Sharon Deevey's book, Pretty Bland: Colorful Cooking for the Gastrointestinally Challenged, is both delightful and inspiring from beginning to end. It takes the reader on an insightful journey through an array of whole foods and recipes by their color. Just as important is how Sharon, in a very creative way, shares her courageous story of self-healing. Using intuitive writing, she gives hope and encouragement to others who may pless when faced with chronic illness. Her book has become a popular must-read in my wellness program.

The personal narrative in Sharon Deevey's cookbook, Pretty Bland, makes an unexpected contribution to the growing literature about the complex symptoms of endometriosis, (pelvic pain, exhaustion, and malfunctioning intestines) and the frequently related diagnoses of CFIDS and IBS. CFIDS is diagnosed 100 times more frequently in women with endometriosis than in the general population, and within the membership of the Endometriosis Association, more women seek support for gastrointestinal problems than for pelvic pain or infertility. Sharon's cookbook also demonstrates creativity, resourcefulness, a basic love of life, and a powerful intention to do whatever it takes to survive. Her story, marked by a droll and often unexpected humor, is truly inspiring to anyone coping with chronic illness, especially when the medical system has no definitive answers.

I go back and back to Sharon's cookbook, Pretty Bland. Although I don't have stomach problems, I have other health and financial issues that limit my energy and resources. Most cookbooks require too much time and too many ingredients that I don't have in the house. Using Pretty Bland I can always make something quick, healthy, colorful and delicious, either for myself or for company.
