Rock Bottom Bomoseen
by Jennifer Madaras
Meet Janine Winters, a seventeen-year-old professional songwriter and guitar virtuoso. Her band Lordz n' Ladiez took the rock scene in Cleveland, Ohio by storm - and then, her father took a job 500 miles away in quintessential Vermont. Along with her parents, her younger brother David, and her cat Monique, Janine makes her way to the Green Mountain State for the culture shock of her life - and several unexpected adventures. Once the family is settled on scenic Lake Bomoseen, Janine swiftly lands a volunteer gig at the local Humane Society and forms a new band: Dagger. Meanwhile, The Trevor Smart Band - a group she grew up with and wrote for professionally - is about to drop their first release, Sweet as Sour. Soon enough, the Trevor Smart Band catapults up the charts, sending them into the world of fame and fortune while putting Janine's songwriting credits on the map.
As a Lakeside High School senior, Janine tries her best to balance between school, music, and keeping her songwriting credits mum. She quickly learns not all is grand in the Green Mountains. She'll stare down bullies for the first time and tackle the worst case of writer's block she's ever experienced. Just as Dagger is about to compete in Vermont's biggest music competition - The Battle of the Bands - Janine breaks her wrist during a snowboarding accident. She must decide: Drop out of the competition or face her biggest fear - Singing?
