Mindfulness in Motion
A Daily Low Dose Mindfulness Practice
Maryanna Klatt, PhD
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), developed by Jon Kabat Zinn in 1979 at University of Massachusetts Medical Center, has demonstrated many therapeutic benefits for the mind, body and spirit and has been used to improve the lives of people in pain, without or without illness. Mindfulness in Motion: Stress Reduction for Busy Adults protocol, designed by Maryanna Klatt PhD, is an abreviated 8-week program based on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction that emphasizes mindful yoga as a way to invite you into a healthy relationship with your body. Mindfulness in Motion is a mindfulness based intervention that is an 8-week program for adults interested in learning a practical strategy for stress reduction. The movements and breathing exercises are simple and can be practiced daily. Gentle piano music accompanies this practice as an invitation, a cue, to relax your body, mind, and spirit. The yoga and gentle music are meant to facilitate your ability to become aware of the life you are living. Learn a tool that may help you go forward to live the life that you want to lead!
Mindfulness in Motion teaches mindful awareness principles, rehearses mindfulness as a group, and then requires daily individual meditative practice. The content and structure of the weekly session follow that of the traditional MBSR, with an increased emphasis on bodily relaxation with soft background music preceding the discussion and role of cognitive habits. Three daily practice CDs (with 20 minute practice tracks) and one mindful yoga DVD have been designed and produced. There is an additional CD included in the Mindfulness in Motion set to sustain the practice with shortened 10 minute practices.

For children she has designed a yoga/meditation program for elementary inner city schools, yielding increased cognitive attentiveness. Dr. Klatt believes that there is an unexplored mine of low cost, high yield movement and meditation practices that have broad pragmatic value. Her goal is to expose people to yoga, meditative, and breathing techniques that can be done during the day, helping them achieve the life and balance that they desire.
