Douglas Montgomery is a semi-retired lifetime resident of Ohio whom loves the hills and climate of the Midwest. An engineering and architectural technician for forty-five years, he is an inventor, artist, gardener and a collector of many things. Hobbies include landscaping, antiquing, car and clock collecting. He seeks the obscure, reads technology, science fiction, biographies, English and Irish poetry, etc. Moby Dick was the first novel he read at the age of 10, then he added Jules Verne, Edgar Alan Poe, Isaac Asimov, etc. School bored him but writing and technical things captured his curiosity so he worked on mechanical and artistic skills. He has owned and operated rental property, landscaping, aquarium, office cleaning, and graphics companies. He worked for architects, civil engineers, restaurant and land developers and is an innovator. He understands the influence of visual and spoken arts upon human activity. Semi-retirement gave him the opportunity to write creatively through a wide genre of poetry, stories and essays. Montgomery's writing is always deeper than first blush, somewhat philosophical or thought provoking, always having a question, discovery or moral to be explored beyond the last line prompting his warnings to "rinse after reading” or “life should be a quest, not a trek." An oblique or subdued humor shows in most of his work. He has been an active and awarded member in numerous organizations, speaks at various venues, contributes specialty articles, appears in anthologies, has published several books of poetry or prose and has other novels, plays, essays, memoirs and works in progress.
