Time Takes All But Memories--J. Michael Westfall
1912-2009

This is a true story about a poor family in rural Southern Ohio. Lima Ferdig left South Dakota for Cincinnati when she was a nineteen year old young woman. While there, she met Harley Westfall, who was in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at the time. Harley and Lima are my parents. They married and had four children together. They endured the Great Depression, World War II, and personal tragedies. This book tells the truth as seen firsthand through my boyhood eyes coupled with my now adult wisdom. Some of the subject matter may alienate the reader; however, this was not my intention. The message is not intended to be demeaning to any individual. Every individual mentioned has left an indelible imprint on me. The story also intertwines personal events with national world events as experienced by our family. It tells the story of life in the 1950s in rural Southern Ohio and of a better life in California. My siblings and I were raised in poverty and despair. Later, we each found success in our own endeavors, despite tragedies and loss. The story spans from the dawn of the twentieth century and culminates in 2009 when just two siblings remain. Perhaps your story is similar to mine and you can relate. Maybe you are just looking to be entertained. Either way, I hope that you can find some enjoyment in my family's story.
